The Moon has no atmosphere, unlike the Earth. So the meteors that strike the Moon do not leave any trail of light or burn up any energy on the way. Naturally , the impact will be tremendous, and the result is that a crater is formed. A typical 'shooting' star travels at the speed of 72 kilometers per second which is 2,59,200 kilometers per hour, This is more than one hundred times the speed of a bullet, so we can imagine the force of the Moon. Since the Moon is constantly being hit by meteors, is it any wonder that there are so many craters on it.
